Dr. Sept was born in Pocatello, Idaho. Currently he operates his own private veterinary practice in Chugiak, AK. He also pilots his own plane to Bethel and King Salmon monthly to provide services to rescues and clients. Past: Owned and operated Bering Sea Vet Clinic in Anchorage. Dr. Sept spent much of his career heavily involved in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Positions held: Chief veterinarian, 1981 and 1982. Race president, 1983 through 1985. He received the prestigious Iditarod Golden Stethoscope Award in 2000. In 1997 he was inducted into the Alaska Dispatch (formerly the Anchorage Daily News) sports hall of fame. He is credited with helping to improve the care of Iditarod dogs and the rules governing their treatment. During his time as race president Iditarod was in debt. He helped put it back in the black before stepping aside and returning to veterinary duties.
