The selection of walnut or cherry wood for each piece is on a "first come first placed" basis as pieces are available. Also, the beauty in each piece of wood is naturally different, making every toy unique.. . I have been making toys for over 50 years. I got my start at a young age making trucks, forts and battleships out of scrap wood with the help of an older brother. I had improved my craft by the time I made trucks and buildings for my own children. Now that I am a grandfather, I have both the time and experience to make high quality toys.. . A LARGE portion of our wood supply is taken from the "scrap pile" of industry. All of us here at Black Bear Toys feel that we further honor the trees by using this rescued wood, and it keeps the price down.. . The wood is finished with tung oil finish, the same as recommended for salad bowls.
