He rose to the rank of Captain and served with Marine Wing Support Squadron 271 (“The Workhorse of the Wing,” Cherry Point, NC) Marine Security Guard Battalion (State Department), Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 (“The Ironmen,” Cherry Point, NC), Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13 (the “Black Widows,” Yuma, AZ), Marine Attack Squadron 311 (the “Tomcats,” Yuma, AZ), 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31 (“The Stingers,” Beaufort), Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (All Weather)-224, (“The Bengals,” Beaufort), and Weapons & Field Training Battalion (Parris Island).
He also graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and a minor in African Studies.
