The Berwick Community Dog Park, to be located at BerVaughn Park in partnership with the BerVaughn Pool Authority, will provide local dog owners access to the area’s first well-maintained and spacious site dedicated just for dogs and their owners. During park hours, residents’ licensed dogs will have a place to play and expend energy without endangering or aggravating people, property, or wildlife.. . Establishing a dog park in the Greater Berwick Area will provide a safe environment for our canine friends and their owners to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Not only will our dogs be able to hone better relationships with other dogs and people, but dog-owners themselves will be able to interact with other fellow dog-owners, establishing a greater sense of community within our town.. . Our park will be 2 ½ acres, surrounded by a six-foot high chain link fence. For added safety, we will have a double-gated entry and separate play areas for small and large. Covered garbage cans and waste bag dispensers will be provided for guests to keep up a clean and well-maintained park. The park provides an adequate amount of shade and seating for summertime comfort. Water will be provided on site through partnership with the Pool Association to maximize cost efficiency. Signs will be provided with “Rules and Regulations,” outlining the park’s hours and other important dog park etiquette to ensure a safe environment.. . Fundraising efforts are underway, and construction is anticipated for summer of 2016, with a grand opening in early Fall.. . What a Dog Park Provides:. -Happiness & Health. Being able to socialize with other dogs while off-leash allows dogs to interact and play in a safe environment. This sort of socialization helps dogs develop healthy relationships with other dogs as well as humans, encouraging them to learn how to behave at and away from the dog park.. . Allowing dogs to run freely helps them to expend their energy in a productive and controlled manner. Dogs that get regular exercise live healthier lifestyles and tend to be calmer in public and at home.. . -A Sense of Community Between People. Creating a common place for dog owners to bring their pets initiates socialization for dogs AND their owners.. . Dog owners gain easy access to people they can talk with about pet related issues, such as problems they are having with their dog and advice that might be useful.. .
