Detailed description is The Berkley Orchestra Association oversees the fundraising efforts which support our orchestra programs.
High School Level: consists of three levels of orchestra- Sinfonia, Concert, & Symphony.
Students in all three orchestras learn and refine advanced concepts necessary for outstanding artistic expression.
High school orchestras play a variety of engagements throughout the year, with opportunities to perform in concerts with the entire orchestra, as well as in solo and ensemble competitions.
Students at this level are able to participate in scholarship programs offered by both the Berkley Orchestra Association and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp..
Middle School Level: (grades 6-8), students continue their studies on their string instruments, meeting each day for full class period of rehearsal time.
The more challenging curriculum and assessments allow the students to make progress in basic elements of musicianship while further developing their skills in reading music and sight reading.
Middle School Orchestras perform 4-6 concerts per year, and are able to participate in scholarship programs offered by both the Berkley Orchestra Association and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
If they wish, students also have the opportunity to participate in Solo and Ensemble Festival where they can medal for Division I or II ratings.
We currently have almost 200 students participating in orchestra between Anderson Middle School and Norup International Schools..
Elementary Level: The Orchestra Program for the Berkley School District begins formal instruction in the 5th grade, offering violin, viola, cello, and the double bass.
Classes meet for 45 minutes twice a week, at Angell, Burton, Pattengill, and Rogers Elementary Schools and Norup International School.
This first year of instruction teaches students proper playing position, playing by rote and reading notes on the staff.
