Detailed description is Lawnmower and small engine repair. Can also work on dirt bikes, ATV's, UTV's go carts, water pumps, gas air compressors, chainsaws, trimmers and much more. I started out as a teenager always interested in fixing things, and with guidance and very patient support from my father, Gilbert Orlando Thornton Jr. AKA (Bud), gave me the inspiration to pursue a career as a mechanic. One of the things I remember about his talks is not only to make life good and be happy with your personal life, but in your job as well. If you know of something you really like doing then perhaps you should pursue it as a career. Words I still remember to this day. I initially went to the Medina County Career Center in Medina OH for 2 years, upon graduation went to Ohio Diesel Technical Institute and was placed on job assignment in Chattanooga TN at a Peterbilt shop, which closed their doors unexpectedly 6 months later. I spent the remainder of 2 years there working odd jobs in what was at that time an unstable market for Diesel Mechanics. So I returned home to Ohio got a job working at a diesel shop but didn’t feel quite right, so I left and got my old high school and college days job back and ended up on a 10 year stretch of going from an equipment mechanic, to surprisingly landing a job as an Equipment Service Representative for a company Called Lesco, originally based out of Rocky River OH. That was an interesting job, even though all 4 of us in the department could handle everything, my Specialty was the 2 cycle lines of equipment but Fate stepped in, something told me I needed a change and in July 1999 I decided to move to Texas, with my first year in Waco before finally ending up in Austin. Worked a couple of jobs the first year till I landed a job with Coastal Transport, a fuel delivery company and was with them for 8 years before I left for personal reasons, spent the next three years at a couple of places, had some fun but just never really felt I was fully enjoying my job, all I could think about was the times I really enjoyed work and it was whenever I was working as a small engine mechanic somewhere. So in 2013 I opened up Barry’s Lawnmower as just a part time business in the evenings and weekends, but on February 2015 I decided to make a go for it, I quit my day job and here I am, so far business is slowly picking up, my plan is to build my business up to not only be able to hire some people especially mechanics but to move off of my property to a real good shop hopefully in Lockhart, where I can start bringing in different brands of new equipment to sell, and to really expand my services to the community.
