TRT 1 ve 2’de yapımcılığını, yönetmenliğini ve sunuculuğunu üstlendiği programları yayınlanmıştır. (Mozaik, Kaleideskop). . 32. Gün programının ilk yıllarında programın Londra muhabirliğini yapmış ve Kıbrıs belgeseli, Demirkırat gibi belgesellerde yapımcı/ araştırmacı olarak görev almıştır. . . BEN SEZAR (‘I, Ceasar’), KIRIM SAVAŞI (‘Crimean War’), BÜYÜK OYUN ‘The Great Game’ ve TRUVA ‘Troy’ gibi BBC ve Discovery Channel belgesellerinin künyesinde Türkiye prodüktörü olarak yeralmıştır.. . 1999’da Tv 8’in Belgesel Bölümünü kurmuş, 2004’e kadar 30’dan fazla belgesele imza atmıştır. 2004 yılında Attila İlhan, Erol Manisalı ile beraber işine son verilmiştir.. . Denizciler, Bir Zamanlar Kıbrıs’da, Artık BİZ DE varız!, Devlerin Savaş Alanı Afganistan, Türkiye Sevdalıları gibi belgesellerden OHRİ, GÜZEL OHRİ Makedonca’ya çevrilmiş ve Makedon Ulusal TV Kanalında bir çok kez gösterime girmiştir; Rıza oğlu Haydar ALİYEV belgeseli ise Azerbaycan Devlet Kanalında defalarca gösterime girmiştir. . . Banu Avar Haziran 2004’de TRT 1’de SINIRLAR ARASINDA adlı programın yapımına başladı. . . Bugüne kadar Balkanlar, Kafkasya, OrtaDoğu Orta Asya, Çin, Hindistan, Güney Amerika’ ve Avrupa’dan dosyalarla 82 ülkeden ekrana gelen program 2008 mayıs ayında ABD, İsrail, Gürcistan, İsveç büyükelçilerinin şikayetleri sonucu yayından kaldırıldı.. Bu gerekçe TRT üst yönetimi tarafından beyan edildi(!). . Banu Avar, 2004-2008 yılları arasında 40 küsur kurumdan çeşitli ödüller ve plaketler almıştır. 7 kitabı bulunmaktadır; Sınırlar Arasında (2006), Avrasyalı Olmak (2007 Ocak), Hangi Avrupa (2007 Ekim) ve 'BÖL VE YUT!'
