Detailed description is The Baker Institute for Peace & Conflict Studies was formally established in 1986. The initial funds to support the program came from Elizabeth Evans Baker in 1968 as a gift to the college, and were used to launch the Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) program in 1971. The Institute was formally established in 1986 as an outgrowth of that project, and was named for the John C. and Elizabeth Evans Baker family in 1987. . . In addition to providing oversight for the undergraduate program, the Baker Institute’s initiatives are designed to educate the public, as well as the Juniata College community, about creating a future where war no longer exists. In addition to the formal programming and activities of the Institute, it also sponsors conferences, workshops, and public forums on war and peace issues.. . Baker Institute programming creates the infrastructure and energy for new intellectual conversations to arise among the Juniata community and with outside institutions. By actively pursuing inter-faculty exchanges of knowledge and ideas, as well as a constant stream of guest speakers and Senior Fellows working at the forefronts of their fields, the Baker Institute enriches the academic and intellectual community for students and faculty alike at Juniata College.
