Le bureau de poste et donc le village porte le nom de Baker's Creek entre 1847 et 1851, de Baker's Brook de 1851 jusqu'aux environs de 1885 et enfin de Gagnon jusqu'en 1893, en l'honneur du maître des postes Jean Gagnon. Le village prend son nom actuel vers 1893.
