The Chapter was originally known as the General Services Administration Metropolitan Chapter of Blacks in Government. On August 27, 2001, the chapter's name officially became, "Atlanta Metro Chapter of Blacks in Government".. . The Chapter was originally initiated by twelve General Service Administration employees to address a variety of issue affecting Black General Service Administration employees. Similar to the national chapter, the issues were based on a huge hodgepodge of racially stimulated complications at their organization. Other federal agencies' employee recognized the need for the Chapter and requested to become members. The Chapter recognized that its name be changed to become more inclusive of all government employees. Like the national chapter, the Metro Atlanta Chapter welcomes federal, state, county and municipal employees and general public as members.. . The Chapter responds to local issues and delivers issues with national implication to the national chapter for resolve. It serves as an extension of the national chapter to for respond to the needs of African Americans in public service to unite around issues of similar concern and use the collective strength to confront and address workplace and community issues. Also like the national chapter, Atlanta Metro Chapter's goals are to promote equity in all aspects of American life, excellence in public service, and opportunity for all Americans.. .
