Detailed description is The North Central College Athletic Mentorship Program is an initiative in which student-athletes serve as role models for their peers.
The North Central College Athletic Mentorship Program is an initiative in which student-athletes serve as role models for their peers.
The mentor program provides first year Cardinal student-athletes with valuable assets they can utilize in everyday life including time-management, social skills, and organizational skills.

The North Central College Athletic Mentorship Program has three goals: (1) Maximize first year student-athletes’ academic and personal growth; (2) Support the first year student-athletes as they pursue their academic goals leading towards graduation; (3) Improve and impact the first year student-athletes' post-college life..

Each first year student-athlete will be placed into a mentoring group and given an upper-class student-athlete mentor.
Each week the student-athlete will discuss current grades and academic issues with his/her mentor in order to determine how his/her tutoring requirements should occur.
For example, if a student is struggling in math, the student should meet with a math tutor for the remainder of the tutor hour.
If the student is doing well in his/her courses, the remainder of the hour is spent with the mentor.
Each mentor will have 4-6 student-athletes and 1-2 mentoring groups each week..

The roles of a mentor are as follows:.
(1) Assist first year student-athletes in developing organizational and time-management skills to enable them to complete course work effectively and efficiently.
(2) Evoke creativity and idea-formulation in first year student-athletes.
(3) Maintain ethical integrity in accordance with the rules of North Central College.
(4) Provide reports to academic support staff in order to monitor the progress of the first year student-athletes throughout each year.
(5) Assist first year student-athletes with keeping an academic planner.
(6) Encourage first year student-athletes to achieve success.
(7) Be patient with first year student-athletes during their transition into college academics and athletics.

The scheduling for meetings is as follows:.

For the fall term, first year student-athletes will meet with their mentor weekly.
During week one, the mentor and first year student-athletes will fill out a planner and break down assignments.
During week four, the first year student-athletes will need to bring their mentor all grades to make plans for the remainder of the term.
At the end of week five, the first year student-athletes will complete their tutor hour with either their mentor or a tutor for the subject he/she needed extra help with.
For winter and spring terms, first year student-athletes will continue to meet with their mentor weekly.
