Atelier 43 is a celebration of pure, natural materials and careful craftsmanhip.. . Everything you see here has been made by hand from pieces of timber salvaged during several years worth of world-wide adventures. Our materials have come from old houses, sailing ships, telegraph poles, fallen branches in the park, building site bins, abandoned logs and roadside collections- from the beaches of the Indian Ocean and North Atlantic, or found on the floor of the Black Forest. They are unique, fully functional pieces of history, each with a story to share.. . Using traditional woodworking tools and methods, each salvaged piece is carefully selected, shaped and moulded into the finished form, be that spoon, breadboard or napkin ring. In order to minimise waste we do not use templates- everything is made to fit the natural dimensions of our materials, resulting in beautifully smooth, organic contours.. . Because we only apply natural, foodsafe oils and waxes to our products, they require slightly different handling to regular ferrous or ceramic kitchenware. A wipe down with a damp cloth will do, or a light scrub with a scouring pad if they are particularly dirty: these products will not respond well to immersion in water (particularly hot water) for any period of time. It goes without saying that the Atelier 43 range has a great aversion to dishwashers. A light coat of olive oil from time to time will keep them looking fresh, and if you are worried about the bugs, give the surfaces a salt rub and leave in a sunny spot for a few hours.. .
