Detailed description is All are welcome! The present sanctuary was built in 1909.
It is the fourth worship space since a Methodist church in Ashland was organized shortly after the Civil War.
At that time, it was known as Ashland Methodist Episcopal Church, South and would become known as Ashland Methodist Church in 1939 when The Methodist Episcopal Church, The Methodist Protestant Church, and The Methodist Episcopal Church, South united.
It has been First United Methodist Church of Ashland since 1968 when The Methodist Church and The Evangelical United Brethren Church merged..

During construction of the sanctuary, which cost $10,000 to build, church services were held in the courthouse.
To pay for the stained glass windows, the ladies of the church grew a cotton patch.
In 1917, we acquired the historic pipe organ thanks to a financial contribution from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation.
The Foundation provided one-half of the cost of the organ with the contingency that the church would raise its half and be otherwise debt-free.
The total cost was $3,600.
Built with 396 pipes by Henry Pilcher’s Sons of Louisville, Kentucky, it is the only pipe organ ever to exist in Clay County.
In 2004, the organ was completely rebuilt and restored including additions of a new trumpet stop and tubular organ chimes.
It now contains a total of 702 pipes and is valued at $233,000..

Due to increasing membership, the building was expanded in 1941.
A three-level annex was added which included a basement with fellowship hall and kitchen as well as Sunday School rooms and a study on the main floor.
The third floor remained unfinished until the early 1950’s.
No other structural changes were made until 1995 when construction began on our current fellowship hall.
