Detailed description is El Gran Arco de la Defensa, más conocido como el Arco de la Defensa o simplemente Grande Arche, es un monumento en París en el distrito de La Défense, cerca de París; fue construido por el arquitecto danés Otto von Spreckelsen.HistoriaEn 1982, el Establecimiento público para la planificación de La Défense convocó un concurso internacional de arquitectura al que se presentaron 424 arquitectos de todo el mundo. El futuro edificio se convertiría en una insignia en el eje histórico de París, como el edificio del Louvre o el Arco de Triunfo. El jurado seleccionó cuatro proyectos y uno logró imponerse por su fuerza, su simplicidad y su pureza, que además se mostraba como la versión moderna del Arco del Triunfo. El autor de ese proyecto era el hasta entonces desconocido arquitecto Johan Otto von Spreckelsen . Tras la muerte de Spreckelsen, el trabajo fue completado por su socio, el arquitecto francés Paul Andreu. La construcción corrió por cuenta del grupo francés Bouygues. En julio de 1989, bicentenario de la revolución francesa, fue inaugurado cuando estaba casi terminado, con gran desfile militar.ConstrucciónEl cubo hueco del Grande Arche tiene 35 plantas. Es un hipercubo casi perfecto, con 108 metros de ancho, 110 metros de alto y 112 metros de profundidad. Sus 300 000 toneladas reposan en doce pilares. Intercaladas entre los pilares y la megaestructura, se encuentran placas de neopreno que absorben las vibraciones y los cambios de dimensión. Las vigas de hormigón pretensado son de 70 metros y soportan el techo de una hectárea. Se colocaron a 110 metros de altura con una precisión milimétrica.
