Nella via Garibaldi del '600 in Trastevere c’era il posto di dogana dello Stato Pontificio che riscuoteva le tasse sul grano; l’antico doganiere decise di istituirvi anche una sorta di posto di ristoro che forniva pane e vino ai numerosi contadini che frequentavano il dazio. . Ecco spiegato il curioso nome “Antica Pesa” coniato alla fine dell’ottocento quando la funzione originaria di dogana venne sostituita da quella vera e propria di osteria. . . Nel 1922 con la prima delle quattro generazioni della famiglia Panella si trasforma in "osteria con cucina" diventando a tutti gli effetti un vero ristorante. . Solo dopo gli anni sessanta cominciò una lenta evoluzione che trasformò l'antica osteria di quartiere, in un ristorante affermato in tutta la città: risalgono a quel periodo infatti, i numerosi dipinti che affrescano il salone, opera di artisti che agli inizi della loro carriera traevano ispirazione dalle particolari atmosfere che da sempre regala il più caratteristico dei quartieri di Roma.. .
