Lig takımlarından MKE Ankaragücü'nün iç saha maçlarına ve resmi kurumlar tarafından düzenlenen tören ve gösterilerde kullanılmaktadır.8 Temmuz 1954 tarihinde ışıldaklarla aydınlatılan stadyumda ilk gece maçı Ankara Demirspor ile Gençlerbirliği arasında yapılmış ve 2-2 berabere sonuçlanmıştır.Stadyumun yapılışıAnkara Belediyesi tarafından 19 Mayıs Stadyumu ve Ankara Hipodromu'nun ihalesi 1.369.762 TL muhammen bedel üzerinden 16 Nisan 1934 tarihinde yapıldı ve 15 Aralık 1936 tarihinde kullanıma açıldı. Paolo Vietti-Violi'nin bu projesi, mimari bir yarışmanın sonucu ve Türkiye’de tasarladığı bir dizi spor kompleksinin ilkidir. Kompleks, türünün ilk örneği olmasıyla Türkiye Cumhuriyeti için tarihsel olarak sembolik bir önem taşımaktadır.
