A capital do Universo A História de Andrelândia, um município brasileiro no interior do estado de Minas Gerais, inicia-se muito antes de sua emancipação, ocorrida em 20 de julho de 1868.
Ela remonta ao final do século XVI, com o início da ocupação da região do sul de Minas Gerais e até mesmo do estado.1.
A colonização na região se deu através da mineração de ouro, diamante e outras pedras preciosas, atividade que se estendia do sul de Minas Gerais até Goiás.
Em 1749, sentindo a necessidade de assistência religiosa, o fazendeiro André da Silveira dirigiu ao Bispo de Mariana um pedido de autorização para se construir no local, então denominado Turvo Pequeno, uma igreja dedicada à Nossa Senhora do Porto.
Atendido pela autoridade eclesiástica, a capela foi construída, recebendo a bênção católica no ano de 1755.
Ao redor do pequeno templo, muitas casas foram sendo construídas, e logo se formou o Arraial do Turvo, primitiva denominação da localidade.1 A partir da construção da capela, em 1827 o arraial do Turvo já estava em condições de ser elevado à condição de paróquia, o que ocorreu um pouco mais tarde, tendo, a partir daí, um crescimento progressivo, até ser transformado em vila no ano de 1864, pela lei nº 1.191 de 27 de julho daquele ano.2.
Após a emancipação de Andrelândia, ocorreu um êxodo rural no município.
Durante o século XX, a população trocou a mineração e a agropecuária pelo comércio.
