Come 2004, at the age of 18, he was 125cc European Champion. He dominated the whole season, taking five victories and six more podium finishes. A year later he moved into the 250cc class, and was awarded ‘Rookie of the year’. In both 2006 and 2007 he finished second overall and was ready to move up another gear. In his debut in the MotoGP class, Andrea finished fourth. He has been one of the best, most consistent Honda drivers, regularly finishing in the top 10. In July 2009, he won his first MotoGP race on the British leg of the season at Donington Park. But the best season was undoubtedly the last, 2011, where Andrea achieved the third place in the overall standings, climbing on the podium seven times. . But after so many years with Honda, the Italian rider felt it was time for a new challenge in the Yamaha, riding the M1 of the Herve Poncharal’s Tech 3 Team. . 2012 was a very important year for me, it was a big challenge changing bike after 10 years because every motorcycle manufacturer has its own philosophy. Also going to a satellite team and getting great results with a non-factory bike was confirmation for me that the experience in the past 10 years has been very important. The 7 podiums of last season have allowed me to become part of a long term project such as Ducati. I know it will be very difficult in the next two years, but it is a long term project where I have a chance to be in charge of the development of the bike with the only goal of returning to the top!.
