Detailed description is The American Heartland Theatre opened April 1, 1987, founded by the late Jim Assad as “…a theatre for entertainment … a theatre that belongs to the people of Kansas City”.. American Heartland Theatre, located on the 3rd floor of the Crown Center Shops, closed its doors on August 25, 2013, following a final performance of 'The Bikinis'. AHT served the Kansas City community through 26 years of live, broadway-style productions produced in-house and featuring as many local actors and designers as possible. AHT's commitment to performing arts in Kansas City, as well as to entertaining audiences, will never be forgotten by the family created show by show, year by year.
