On September 11, 2007, our Hero, CW3 David Michael Stanley was killed in an unsuccessful military UH-60 training flight. Leaving behind so many including a wife and two sons. Our Hero's sacrifice for his country, left our family feeling the pain of the ultimate sacrifice. Respectfully, Congress recognizes us with so many others as Gold Star families. . . Our family considers music as one of the greatest tools that God placed in our life to help us heal. It began when two of our neighbors simply brought us a gift of a "song" that they thought would help...I still remember..."Who Knew" by P!NK and "Praise You In This Storm" by Casting Crowns...diverse yet, equally valuable...It was then that I began to realize that through music I was able to let go and hurt and release pain that had no where else to go anymore but out...and my two little boys at age 5 and 8 at the time...they learned to utilize music because they believed in me so much that they just followed my lead. . . Two years later, music took another turn in our life in a way I really knew little about…or maybe growing up on Conway Twitty and Reba was more than just my momma singing…it was her own little bit of therapy and healing that shaped my ear for a good country song. Furthermore, On October 21, 2009, I met a songwriter, Kenneth Duncan. What would have been my 9th Wedding Anniversary became a new beginning for my family to understand the depth of music. When Kenneth and I met that night, He introduced me to the crowd and then he dedicated a song to my Hero and I...and well, if you think songs are amazing to hear on the radio...up-close and personal is even better! On the serious side of this, Kenneth began to write songs with me in mind and would send those for me to hear. The average girl would have been completely swept off her feet...and I was in many ways...Yet, for me I was almost watching a film or looking in the mirror at my own life and hearing the words and ideas of who I was...well, it hurt, was difficult and very impressive all at the same time.….But, there was something so intriguing about this guy....He was truly writing the story of so many of our lives, of my life, and he was reaching inside of me and making me feel alive again. His ability to write, and write, and write was an element I quickly recognized as something so different from others. . .
