Detailed description is As a nonprofit, the American Friends of the Chambon Memorial raises awareness and funds in the US to build a Memorial for its bravery in WWII hiding jews. “We don’t know which are Jews. AFCM is supporting the Memorial in the United States through the promotion of three specific projects.. 1- Increased exchanges between American and French schools, to raise awareness about the history of Le Chambon and use it as an example of tolerance for the world; demonstrating their humanity and courage as a message of hope for today’s youth.. 2- Exhibitions, Cultural and Education Activities. The Fate of Children: Children’s Homes in Le Chambon-sur-Lignon and Elsewhere is a bilingual exhibition that explores the history of rescued children’s homes in and around Le Chambon. It follows the stories of children from Berlin, Budapest and Poland who came to France as refugees and were sheltered in Le Chambon during World War II. Some children were reunited with their families in the United States, thanks to the generosity of Americans and international aid agencies. This exhibition will open in Le Chambon in July 2016 and will travel later to the United States in Fall 2016. . A catalogue in English and French will look more deeply into different aspects of the story. New educational materials will enable school classes to explore the history of Le Chambon, and to live the story through the eyes of the rescued children who sheltered in these homes. New tools for children will be developed such as games, a children’s book and an iPad/Smartphone app explaining to the children the story of the hidden children.Cost of the project: $100,000.. . 3- Extension of the Memorial Museum. New workshop spaces will be created to provide better accommodation for students. Educational workshops will explore the different forms of resistance to Nazi occupation, the involvement of the Protestant communities and the relevance today of the individuals distinguished as Righteous Among the Nations. . In 2017-2018, Le Chambon Memorial Museum, which currently occupies part of the village school, will expand its space, aiming to restore 2 former unoccupied classrooms..
