Equipment and fertilize prices steadily rose while crop prices seemed to steadily fall.
Like so many other small farmers, our farm went under, and soon would have carried along with it our home, much of our property, and many of our hopes and dreams.
Faced with enormous debt and little hope of a farming recovery, we turned our focus in a different direction: towards the dinner tables of everyday America.

One thing that our family has always been good at is cooking.
Something that we're even better at is eating, but that is another story.
We put our heads together and created six different dip mixes and four soups that we thought would satisfy customers who sought not only a meal in a hurry, but a good meal not full of the corn starch and filler that were jam-packed into the mixes we had seen and used.
At that time we knew that our products were good and the only way to keep them that way was to be involved and accountable every step of the way.
We promised ourselves that we would never compromise the quality of our product for the sake of the bottom line.
Each bag of Old Plantation Soup is poured up one bag at a time, one scoop at a time.
We don't use fancy machinery or sophisticated gadgets to blend our mixes.
