Detailed description is . Adilcevaz diğer ismi elcevaz, Bitlis iline bağlı, Van Gölü'nün kıyısında kalan bir ilçedir.TarihçeKentin adı Arapça Zatülcevz sözcüğünden türemiştir. Bu isim ilk olarak MS 890 dolaylarında burada kurulan bir Arap/İslam beyliğinin adı olarak görülür. Kentin daha eski olan esas adı "Artske" veya "Artsike"dir. Bu isim muhtemelen Urartu dilindedir.Adilcevaz'ın tarihi oldukça eskiye inmektedir. Bölgede öncelikle Urartular yerleşmiş, daha sonra Asurlular, Persler (MÖ 700), Makedonyalılar (330) buraya egemen olmuşlardır. MS 700 yıllarında Arap akınları buraya yoğunlaşmış, sonraki yıllarda bölge Araplar ile Bizanslılar arasında sürekli savaşlara sahne olmuş ve her iki toplum arasında zaman zaman el değiştirmiştir. Malazgirt Savaşından (1071) sonra da yörede Türklerin egemenliği başlamıştır. Yavuz Sultan Selim'in çaldıran Savaşından (1514) sonra da Osmanlı topraklarına katılmıştır. 1514 yılında Osmanlı hakimiyetine girmiştir. Tarihinde sancak beyliği de yapmış olan ilçe 1930'lu yıllara kadar Van'ın bir ilçesi iken daha sonra alınan kararla Bitlis'e bağlanmıştır. İlçe Türk ve Türkmen nüfusunun ağırlıklı olduğu bir ilçedir.Adilcevaz ceviz bakımından zengin bir memleket olup 14.600 nüfusludur.Coğrafyaİl merkezine 90 kilometre uzaklıktadır.İlçenin kuzeyinde Urartular'a ait bugün Kef Kalesi adıyla anılan bir kale vardır. Ermeniler döneminde de kent Artske adıyla anılmış ve Pznunik vilayetinin başlıca kenti olmuştur. Etrafı sıra dağlarla çevrili olan Adilcevaz'ın güney cephesi ise Van Gölü'ne bakmaktadır. Ulaşım ilçenin yine düz ve engebesiz olan güney kısmından, Van Gölüne paralel olarak batıda Ahlat ilçesine doğuda ise Erçiş ilçelerine bağlamaktadır.
