Detailed description is We make home made goat milk soaps with about 70% organic oils. Our varieties are oatmeal, cinnamon,coconut,jambalaya,lavender, chamomile,jasmine, etc. From the Freeport Journal Standard, August 25, 2015:. . LEAF RIVER — For more than 25 years, Adela Rissman has been making soap out of water and lye for her family.. She and her husband Joel have always farmed using organic methods, and making soap was something she did for her family and friends. But, little by little, friends asked if she knew of a way to make soap for sensitive skin. Rissman did her research and learned that goat milk — mixed with organic oils, flowers and vegetables — could be added to the soap mixture to help her friends with their sensitive skin.. “I started doing my research, bought books about a year ago, and then looked into getting a supplier for the goat milk,” Rissman said. “There is a way to make goat-milk soap with powder and water, but I wanted the real milk. With powder, you don’t know what you are getting.”. Rissman found a farm in Baileyville that would sell her the milk she needed. She buys five gallons at a time, which gives her 20 batches of soap, or about 200 bars. She said none of the soap is sold unless it is tested by her family. She has 12 varieties, all made from natural oils, flowers and vegetables she and Joel grow in the small garden behind their home in the country.. Rissman said that she considers herself a “scientist.” She uses the trial-and-error method, so none of her recipes come from the Internet or books she reads.. “I am like my own science project, and it is working,” she said.. She adds no fragrance to her soap and buys only certified and organic oils online.. Rissman met with her first success more than a year ago. She gave the soap to a friend who has sensitive skin. She said that the friend reported back that her skin condition was better. Rissman said that she, herself, no longer uses lotion; the goat-milk soap does the trick.. “Good goat(-milk) soap is based on the quality of the oil,” Rissman said. “Fragrance gives soaps the wow, but it is also chemically derived. The smells in my soaps are natural. The colors come from the herbs, the flowers and the chemical reaction to the lye with the oil.”. Carol President of Chicago is a teacher. She not only uses the soap for herself, but had one of her students use the soap.. “Adela has something special in her soap. It’s about the smooth and clean smell, and it is so good I laugh by saying you almost want to brush your teeth with it,” President said. “But seriously, I had a student in my classroom who had skin problems, and when I had her use the soap in my classroom she told me her skin feels so much better.”. . Rissman said that she is proud of what she has accomplished with her soap-making, but she wants to keep making new varieties. She sells her soap locally at the farmers market from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday in Oregon. She also works in Freeport as a tutor at Blackhawk Elementary School and will deliver locally.. “The soap-making process is easy, but you need to have time and patience and not rush the process,” she said. “I will continue to perfect my soap.
