Detailed description is L'abbazia di San Gallo è un monastero (di clausura dal 1985) situato sul colle di Santo Spirito, in località Moggio di Sopra, nel comune di Moggio Udinese (UD).StoriaL'abbazia benedettina fu fondata nel 1085 da Federico di Moravia, patriarca di Aquileia, ma probabilmente in precedenza vi era una stazione di osservazione romana, come si deduce da una lapide che è murata in una colonna del chiostro.
L'abbazia fu consacrata dal patriarca Ulrico di Eppenstein nel 1119 ed era dipendente dall'Abbazia di san Gallo in Svizzera.
In breve tempo acquisì il dominio su tutta la valle.
Inoltre, gli abati di Moggio ebbero diritto di voto nel Parlamento della Patria del Friuli e le loro contese per questioni confinarie, prima con i Conti di Gorizia e successivamente con la comunità di Venzone, coinvolsero nel XIV secolo anche i duchi d'Austria.
L'abbazia fu soppressa nel 1776.
