Detailed description is L’abbaye Saint-Germer-de-Fly, anciennement abbaye de Flay, est une ancienne abbaye de bénédictins fondée au par saint Germer, son premier abbé. Détruite une première fois par les Vikings vers le milieu du, elle est de nouveau ravagée par Rollon au début du, puis reconstruite au à l'initiative de l'évêque de Beauvais. L'ancienne abbaye est située en Hauts-de-France, dans le département de l'Oise, sur la commune de Saint-Germer-de-Fly. Hormis un certain nombre de vestiges, ne restent de la puissante abbaye du Moyen Âge que l'église abbatiale, de style gothique primitif, et la sainte-chapelle, de style gothique rayonnant. La première a été construite entre 1135 et 1206 environ et est devenue l'église paroissiale de l'actuel village de Saint-Germer-de-Fly. D'un point de vue architectural, avec son mélange de styles roman et gothique, elle est considérée comme un exemple caractéristique de la première génération gothique, et ceci, non par ses dimensions ou sa beauté, mais par son caractère novateur. C'est l'un des plus anciens témoignages de l'art gothique en France. La seconde a été construite pendant les années 1260 et n'apporte pas d'innovations architecturales, mais elle représente aujourd'hui l'un des rares exemples des nombreuses saintes-chapelles édifiées partout en France entre 1240 et 1260 environ. Par le raffinement de son architecture et la maîtrise remarquable dans son exécution, elle est un chef-d'œuvre de l'art rayonnant et reflète cet art à son apogée. Les deux édifices sont classées monuments historiques très tôt par liste de 1840, et se retrouvent ainsi parmi les treize tout premiers monuments historiques du département de l'Oise. Les autres vestiges sont inscrits en 1930, puis en 1983.
