While most shelters provide necessities such as basic housing, meals and health services, there are simply not enough funds for furnishings beyond the basics. These basics are often tattered with bleak and depressing rooms.. . This is where A Lotta Love Chatham County wants to make a difference. We want to help the people going through hard times reclaim their pride, while living in this temporary environment. With your help we can breathe life and joyfulness into these sterile rooms and give them “a home away from home" by making them feel more dignified, safe, emotionally inspired, and encourage them to move forward. Our living space directly impacts our mood, energy, and motivation, and our goal is to inspire them to transform their lives.. . A Lotta Love Chatham County officially started August 2017 when Chatham County Initiatives, GAP Housing Project acquired two housing units. The GAP Housing Project, is an initiative that will provide a shared housing option for homeless female heads of households and families fleeing domestic violence situations. By acquiring these two housing units and providing the ONLY shelter in Chatham County, A Lotta Love can finally provide assistance to one of the poorest counties.. . In late 2016, Rhonda Kowald was sent on a photography assignment to take photos of Lotta and the board members for a feature. Before that shoot ended, Rhonda was asked to become a member of the board of A Lotta Love. After the board meeting, and learning about all the great work A Lotta Love and the community has been doing all over Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill for the last three years, it was an honor to join this amazing organization and bring Chatham County into A Lotta Love. However, it was quickly discovered that in Chatham we didn’t have a single shelter and plans on moving to Chatham was put on hold, luckily not for long.. . A Lotta Love is a non-profit and 100% of all donations are put back into the shelters..
