WHO and WHAT is 906BOOM? We are Ironwood's Creative MakerSpace located at 320 East Aurora in downtown Ironwood, Michigan. . . Many of you know our location as the old Elks Club, which originated in 1913, during the Gogebic Range mining boom. Back in it’s heyday, the Elks Club housed a Restaurant, Bar, meeting rooms, a grand ballroom, and a bowling alley, most of which only remnants remain. Over the years, the building has been home to many different endeavors including other offices and the local kids ‘headstart’ program. Today we are 906Boom!. . Nancy Korpela purchased the building in 2012 and opened it as a Small Business Incubator / MakerSpace in 2014, a place where people can come together to create, invent, tinker and learn a new hobby or skill, work from home and consign to one of our retail shops, or start a new business of your own. . . Why name the building 906BOOM!?. . First, 906 is our area code, signifying 'US' as 'Makers' in the Upper Peninsula! and . Second..'BOOM' is the sound that makers, creators, and thinkers make as something is accomplished! . BOOM!. . As of today, we have 7 MakerSpace businesses all at this address! There are an additional 25+ artists & artisans that consign their work at 906Boom!. TORIHOUSE, Nancy's retail and consignment business, was the first to open in 2014.
