Detailed description is Citizen scientist volunteers recruited from across the state will help to survey all bird species breeding in VA from 2016-2020. The Virginia Society of Ornithology (VSO), Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) and researchers from Virginia Tech University are partnering to launch the 2nd breeding bird atlas (BBA) for the state of Virginia. This project will be carried out in large part by citizen scientist volunteers who will help collect data on the status and abundance of all bird species breeding across the state. This 5-year project will help document changes in bird populations since the previous atlas (1985-1989), providing critical conservation information. Additionally, it will involve thousands of volunteers in an ambitious, wide-reaching bird conservation initiative.
