Detailed description is 2nd Chance is a private Christian school for troubled teens with an equine emphasis to develop life skills for the students.. . WHAT IS 2nd CHANCE ?. 2nd Chance is a faith based school whose mission is to follow the example of Christ by embracing all God's children and to offer a learning experience in an agricultural setting for troubled teens who will be sent to the school through the court systems. 2nd Chance is funded by the financial backing of grants and donations.. 2nd Chance is a traditional day school, with no on campus housing. It will be open to both boys and girls. The students will be tutored in a classroom setting for half the day and work with horses the other half of the day. The goal is to work with 30 teens at a time, with 15 in the classroom and 15 in the barn and the students will switch to the opposite setting the other half of the day.. It had been found that equine therapy builds skills in the following areas, problem solving, work ethic, personal relationships, team work, confidence, attitude, emotional growth, and relationship building. Several studies have been done as to the effectiveness of equine assisted therapy versus traditional therapeutic sessions. In nearly all cases, teens who receive equine therapy on an average experience greater total therapeutic and psychological change. . Completion of the student’s education at 2nd Chance, either by diploma or GED will be determined by each individual student and their desire to succeed in the program. . The future may include other programs such as cattle, pigs, and horticulture.
