Detailed description is This page if for friends and family of Whitefish Raids Cottage to view and share pictures and stories 1130 Whitefish Raids has been our family cottage since 1998.
Ideally situated on both Kashawakamak and Georgia Lake, with Whitefish Raids flowing in-between...
this is a truly unique location.
Over the years we have gathered a most wonderful collection of memories of both our family, and visiting friends.
There is always much to do, for any age.
We can play in the raids, soak in nature's "whirlpool" or snorkel around in the fish pools.
As young kids, our children spent so many hours in the water and hanging out on the raids.
The strength of the raids varies based on the water levels but if they are high enough we even surf over them, in boards or in tubes.
Only during the early spring runoff do they increase significantly in strength.
During the summer months they are a safe and idyllic place to play for kids of all ages.
The shallow sandy beach on upper Georgia Lake provides a nice safe and warm swimming area.
From there you can paddle a boat or swim over to the larger raids at Myers' Cave.
With no power boats on this lake, it is very quiet and private.
The occasional canoeist "shooting" the raids does provide the odd intrusion but is usually very entertaining.
Reading (or napping) on a warm summers afternoon to the sounds of moving water is blissful, especially in the fall.
.
There is deeper swimming off of the large dock on Kashawakamak Lake.
From there you have 14km of lake for great boating and exploring.
There are great picnic spots on the many small uninhabited islands, and at a dam that controls Kashwakamaks water level.
Overnight camping by canoe is permitted on some of the Lakes nearby Islands.
Close-by is a camp ground that sells penny candy and rents motor boats, a popular dive cliff, good fishing and hiking.
Although a popular lake, it is not overpopulated Our cottage is hidden from the hustle and bustle of the larger lake Kashawakamak (we seldom see a jet ski or powerboat other than ours), while still having immediate access to it.
.
.
We have three bedrooms that can sleep 7.
Hot and cold running water, electricity, wood burning stove, phone service, and cell phone coverage keep us comfortable.
A large front lawn is perfect for pitching a tent close to the raids and the outdoor fire pit.
While still rustic it has been updated and even has a marble shower.
There are two sitting areas and a sun room which can be closed off and doubles as the third bedroom.
These spots have been ideal for midday napping, picturesque reading, playing games or engaging in Lord of the Rings Marathon sessions on rainy days.
.
.
The cottage sits high on the property and it feels as though you are sitting in the trees, even though you can always hear the sound of moving water.
You can see the water from the front windows or from the two large decks.
The property has been landscaped to provide a gradual slope down to the water and there is also a ramp that goes most of the way into the cottage.
Only a few stairs throughout to manage.
The property is one and half acres, with no neighbours to the north, and hidden from the sight of our friendly neighbours on our Southern property line.
There are lots of fun spots for the kids to play, including a tree house with slide, rocks and trees to climb, and of course the wonderful waterfront.
There is plenty of space available for parking for both family and guests.
Besides all the other things that I mentioned, our pastimes include cottage cooking, archery, dirt biking, astronomy, photography and taking long picturesque walks or sitting around the large campfire spot listening to the moving water at night.
.
.
Local attractions and amenities include Bon Echo Provincial Park which provides spectacular views, a number of nature programs and a museum.
There is a nice petting zoo catering to rescued animals, and a number of golf courses.
A lovely restaurant is close by at the small cottage community of Marble Lake a few kilometers away, and pizza, banking, gas, groceries, LCBO/Beer Store are all easy to get to in the local villages of Cloyne and Northbrooke.
The Bon Aventure Caves are also within driving distance.
The property is easily accessed in less than two hours from Ottawa and Pembrooke, 90 minutes from Kingston, and a little over two hours from Toronto..
.
We want to thank all our friends and family for all the wonderful memories.
We are very thankful to have been able to share our cottage with you, and look forward to seeing you back! .
