Detailed description is 미합중국 제1 은행은 미합중국 최초의 중앙은행 역할을 했던 민간은행이었다.
1791년 미합중국 제1 은행이 미국 건국 초기의 수도였던 필라델피아에 설립되었다.
토머스 제퍼슨 대통령의 반대에도 불구하고 알렉산더 해밀턴의 건의로 의회의 승인을 받아 세워졌다.
승인 기한은 20년이었다.
정부가 독립전쟁으로 인하여 부채를 안고 있었고 각 주가 서로 다른 통화 체제를 유지하고 있었기 때문에 당시 재무부 장관이던 알렉산더 해밀턴은 이 은행을 통해 전쟁으로 인한 부채를 처리하고 표준 통화를 만들고자 하였다.
그 후 연방의 자금고로서 은행권의 발행권을 가지고 통화 신용의 안정에 큰 역할을 수행하였다.
