The Beach Boys are thrilled to share an unreleased live version of fan favorite “Susie Cincinnati” as the next preview to their forthcoming new box set,
Feel Flows – The Sunflower and Surf’s Up Sessions 1969-1971, due August 27 via Capitol/UMe. Written and sung by Al Jardine, the rollicking, horn-laden performance was recorded nearly 45 years ago at a legendary stadium concert in Anaheim, Calif. on July 3, 1976 that heralded the return of Brian Wilson to the live stage for his first full show with The Beach Boys in many years, part of the “Brian’s Back” publicity campaign that also signaled his return to the studio and the release of the group’s new 15 Big Ones album, celebrating 15 years of the band. Surf’s Up are getting a massive box set treatment to mark the 50th anniversary of the latter LP.
Feel Flows – The Sunflower & Surf’s Up Sessions 1969-1971 arrives on July 30th via Capitol/UMe and is available for preorder.
Alongside the box set announcement, they’ve dropped the previously unreleased song “Big Sur.” Originally recorded for
Surf’s Up, the song houses the group’s classic harmonies and wistful yearning to return to the titular California coastal area.
The five-CD and digital box set features newly remastered versions of the albums alongside 108 previously unreleased tracks, live recordings, radio promos, alternate versions, alternate mixes, isolated backing tracks, and a cappella renditions. Curated by Mark Linnett and Alan Boyd, the team who assembled 2013’s
Sunflower and
Surfâs Up. Offcuts from the albums, released in 1970 and 1971, respectively, include unreleased tracks, live recordings, radio promos, alternate versions, alternate mixes, isolated backing tracks, and a cappella versions. Titled
Rolling Stone, and, below, listen to the previously unreleased âBig Sur.â
The set comes with a 48-page book featuring unreleased and rare photos, lyric sheets, tape box images, recording artifacts, new liner notes by Howie Edelson, and a set of new and archival interviews. As well as the 5xCD box set, vinyl and other CD editions are set for release.Â
