Preceding him in death were his father, Howard Anderson, and brothers, Steve and Paul Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Gabriele Anderson of Watertown; sons, Justin (Heather Franklin) Anderson of Lebanon and Josh Anderson of Savannah, GA; daughter, Stephanie (George) O’Donnell of LaVergne; brothers, Alvin Johnson and Howard Anderson, Jr., Eddie, Tommy, Tony, Christopher, Jeffery, and Michael Anderson; sister, Donna Folk; grandchildren, Gracie Brand, Kenzie Brand, Allie Jones, and Tanner O’Donnell; and tons of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Second Amendment bills moving through N.D. Legislature Brayden Zenker BISMARCK – North Dakota legislators have introduced a collection of bills this session aimed at preserving gun rights in North Dakota, with some saying they fear new control measures from the Biden Administration. One measure, HCR 3006, urges the federal government to protect Second Amendment rights. The resolution states any restriction on purchases or possession of firearms or ammunition, including excessive taxes or fees, would violate the U.S. Constitution. Rep. Jeffery Magrum, R-Hazelton, is a sponsor. “If they do attack the Second Amendment, I think there will be a lot of pushback,” Magrum said. “Not just from the state Legislature but from the people themselves.”

Senate committee hears proposals to lower prescription drug costs Brayden Zenker BISMARCK The Senate Human Services Committee heard testimony on three bills aimed at getting North Dakota consumers access to lower prescription prices. “Most of us have never heard a good explanation of why the same drug a few miles across the border [in Canada] sells for 40%, 30% or sometimes even 20% of the price we pay in this country,” said Sen. Howard Anderson Jr., R-Turtle Lake (District 8), who introduced all three. The first of the three, SB 2170, would create a system to set payment rates for prescription drugs based on international prices, specifically the price of those drugs in Canada. The bill would compare prescription drug prices in America to prices in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec. After comparison, the lowest price would be used as reference rate, or maximum rate, for consumers.

Port: Importing Canadian price controls is not the answer for drug prices

Canadian drug prices are cheaper because the Canadian government controls them. In 1987 our northern neighbors created the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board. This entity reviews drug prices and, if it finds a price for a particular drug excessive, the board will not pay for it. Since Canada has a nationalized health care system, as a practical matter, this means Canadians can t access those drugs. Many Americans may seek out cheaper prescription drugs in Canada, but many Canadians come to the United States to get the care and medicine their country s government won t pay for or won t provide promptly. But if price controls are good enough for Canadians, why not Americans too?
