Tim Colliver | The Times-Gazette A man whose dramatic escape from the Highland County Common Pleas Courtroom lat year was captured on video was sentenced to an additional six years in prison Tuesday in the same courtroom. Nickolaus Garrison, 34, Hillsboro, appeared before visiting Judge Daniel Hogan and pled guilty to one count of escape, a third-degree felony; and one count of assault on a peace officer, a fourth-degree felony, in connection with his escape from the second-story courtroom last September.

Tim Colliver | The Times-Gazette Accused child sex offender James McCartney has been deemed competent to stand trial, according to documents filed Thursday in Highland County Common Pleas Court. McCartney, 61, of the Rocky Fork Lake area, is charged with multiple counts of child sex offenses. He was indicted on April 6 by a Highland County grand jury on one count of trafficking in persons, a first-degree felony, with the indictment alleging that he willingly knew the person involved was under the age of 16 and was being trafficked for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity for hire.
