WILLIAMSBURG The last day to buy tickets for the Haydenville Congregational Church’s Cajun shrimp boil fundraiser is Thursday, the centerpiece of which will be shrimp prepared by the Rev. Donald Morgan, the church’s pastor.
“He wanted to do what he called his Louisiana Shrimp Boil,” said Trish LaFreniere, the head of the church’s fundraising committee. “He is cooking the shrimp.”
Morgan spent 13 years in Biloxi, Mississippi, on a United Church of Christ mission and he said he learned his shrimp boil there. Morgan also said people should not be scared away from the boil by the word “Cajun.”

NORTHAMPTON The Rev. Donald Morgan, pastor of Haydenville Congregational Church, said he watched bits and pieces of the trial of Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer convicted of killing George Floyd last May.
“Of course I tuned in to the verdict,” Morgan said, standing at the front of the Unitarian Society of Northampton and Florence church on Thursday afternoon. “Since that time I have celebrated, and I have rejoiced,” he said. “But I was only able to celebrate after telling myself and assuring myself that although we celebrate and there’s nothing wrong with celebration that we have to remember that that victory, that that justice, that that accountability does not erase or eradicate all the injustices and unaccountabilities that have taken place in this nation over the years.”

WILLIAMSBURG The Haydenville Congregational Church is holding its first big fundraiser since the pandemic started, with a weeklong silent online auction that kicked off Thursday.
The auction will feature more than 150 items that range from toys and furniture to art posters and original oil paintings. These items include a 3-foot-long wooden loon, a homemade pair of Bernie Sanders-style mittens and a pancake breakfast box. But the most notable item for Trish LaFreniere, the head of the church’s fundraising committee, is coming from Michael Liberatore, an 8-year-old member of the congregation and an accomplished cellist.
