The Hellenic Gymnastics Federation says it will investigate complaints from former athletes after 22 published a letter saying they had suffered decades of abuse at the hands of coaches.
The letter was sent to Greece’s President and Prime Minister, as well as the Deputy Minister of Sports, the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the Hellenic Gymnastics Federation.

Efimerida ton Syntakton reported that athletes have said they were subjected to training methods which reached the limit of torture, corporal punishment, and mandatory fasting , adding that there were incidents of psychological abuse, humiliation and sexual harassment.
The complaints date back to 1985 but reportedly cover several years.

ATHENS - While investigations are ongoing into claims by a number of people, mostly women, of alleged sexual harassment and even rape, a Greek actor whose name has surfaced is taking legal steps to stop it.
Petros Filippidis, who’s appeared on TV series, was dropped from a comedy on the state-run ERT station earlier when his name came up as he vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
He accused a lawyer of slander for mentioning the actor’s name in a harassment complaint made by one of his clients to the Association of Greek Actors, a number of whom said they faced regular harassment.
In light of a recent spate of sexual abuse allegations Greek actor Petros Filippidis has been dropped from ERT's comedic television series "Greet the Plane Tree for me" (Χαιρέτα μου τον Πλάτανο).

A former sailing coach has been arrested in Greece on charges of sexual abuse after being accused of raping an 11-year-old athlete nine years ago.
According to the
Prosecutors have received testimonies from the athlete, now aged 21, and her parents.
The coach has reportedly been charged with aggravated rape, repeated seduction and misconduct.
The accused had earlier given a media interview, where he claimed he had not raped the young girl.
He claimed the relationshi ” had started when the girl was 13 and said he wanted to marry her.

A Greek sailing coach who admitted on Friday that he had what he called a “relationship” with an 11-year-old athlete was arrested on the island of Samos on Sunday.
He will be charged with aggravated rape, seduction, and misconduct.
A Greek prosecutor investigating the case received testimonies from the athlete and her parents.
The prosecutor instantly issued an arrest warrant against the accused coach, who was arrested at his home.
On Friday the accused revealed on television that he had an affair with the athlete when she was 11.
