Apr 18, 2021 Under the deal, the largest ever between the two countries, Israel’s Elbit Systems will establish and operate a flight school for the Hellenic Air Force. By JNS Israel and Greece announced on Sunday the signing of a defense cooperation agreement worth approximately 5.4 billion shekels ($1.6 billion). The agreement includes the establishment of a flight training center for the Hellenic Air Force, to be built and operated for 22 years by Israeli defense company Elbit Systems. The training center will be modeled after the Israeli Air Force’s own flight academy, and it will be supplied with 10 M-346 training aircraft made by Italy’s Leonardo company. The aircraft will be an Israeli variant known as the “Lavi,” which, according to Elbit, are equipped with “unique avionics and embedded training solutions.” These aircraft are also used by the IAF for training cadets. ....
By JNS Greece has approved Israel’s bid for a 20-year, $1.68 billion defense contract for the establishment of a flight school for the Hellenic Air Force, Israel’s Defense Ministry announced on Monday. The defense procurement agreement, the signing of which now depends on negotiations with the Greek Defense Ministry, will be the largest ever between the two countries. The agreement is a “long-term partnership” that “reflects the excellent and developing relations we have with Greece,” said Israel Defense Minister Benny Gantz, who added that it would create hundreds of jobs in both countries and “promote stability” in the Mediterranean. ....
