A man who boarded a Merseyrail train with the wrong ticket has now been ordered to pay almost sixty times his fare. The case of Patrick St John Murphy was heard at Sefton Magistrates Court yesterday The 28-year-old, of Knowsley Road, Aigburth, was travelling on the Wirral Line on September 29, 2019, when a train guard asked to see his ticket.
He produced a Day Saver pass which was invalid for the area he was travelling in, and when staff challenged him he was said to have become verbally abusive .

A Warrington Wolves star has congratulated dozens of members of staff on securing permanent roles at a PPE firm. Prop forward Chris Hill swapped his mouth guard for a face mask and presented Alpha Solway in Golborne with a signed shirt to mark the recruitment milestone. The company, which is part of Globus Group and one of leading providers of PPE, took on 30 permanent employees to help with their contracts with the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS Scotland to manufacture respirators for frontline NHS workers battling the Covid-19 pandemic.
