Could there be pedestrian bridges over Route 1 in the Lewes-Reboboth Beach area?
During the April 26 Five Points Working Group virtual meeting, Jeff Riegner, a Delaware Department of Transportation consultant with Whitman, Requardt & Associates, said a study is underway to determine possible locations for pedestrian bridges.
The idea is one of 78 recommendations formulated by the working group. ....

Scenic Manor bringing 319 new homes to Mulberry Knoll Road in Lewes

Over 300 new homes are coming to the southern side of Mulberry Knoll Road in Lewes.
It s a bucolic stretch of road off Route 24 that typically sees just 280 vehicles daily, according to a 2019 traffic study. But Scenic Manor, which plans to develop about 167 acres on either side of the road, will bump traffic numbers up over 3,000, according to the same study.
The Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission approved Land Investment, LLC s plan for the 319-home Scenic Manor development on April 22.
But their approval came following an April 8 meeting in which they received a petition with over 500 signatures and heard from about a half-dozen people who oppose the planned development. ....

DelDOT outlines schedule for Route 24 projects

Twenty-five years ago, state transportation officials were exploring an idea to dualize Route 24 from the Route 113 intersection in Millsboro to the Route 1 intersection near Rehoboth Beach.
And just as with plans to dualize Route 404/9 from the Maryland line to the beaches, the idea was not met with much public support.
“There was major public opposition, so DelDOT abandoned the idea,” said Mark Luszcz, Delaware Department of Transportation deputy director of design.
However, he said, parts of the plan are coming to fruition on the east side of Love Creek bridge with the ongoing Route 24 widening project. East of the bridge, projects are designed to solve increasing traffic-capacity issues, but on the west side, projects are aimed at safety and operational improvements, not major capacity projects, he said. ....

Some long-planned road improvements in Sussex County, Delaware, could be headed for the express lane through a new funding initiative that aims to speed up construction of critically needed transportation projects in southern Delaware.
At its Dec. 15 meeting, the Sussex County Council approved creation of the
Sussex County Funding Accelerating Safety in Transportation (FAST) Track Program, a first-of-its-kind plan to use set-aside county funds to jumpstart road improvements that are planned, but not imminent, on the state s six-year capital projects list.
