In the summer of 2018, on the ferry from Rossaveal to Inis Oírr, Yvonne Tiernan had a chance meeting with Ruth Dillon. The former had her own band, The Grey Willows. The latter had a guitar slung over her shoulder and was crossing to the island to play a solo gig that night. It was inevitable that they would talk. Ruth ended up inviting Yvonne and her husband, comedian Tommy, to the show. Three women s lives were changed that night at the Áras Éanna Arts Centre on the Aran Islands. Onstage, Juliana Erkkonen, who had moved to the west of Ireland from Finland in 2003, was playing fiddle and singing with Ruth. ....
