Taking Off Our Masks, Conquering Blursday, and Other Good News

Taking Off Our Masks, Conquering Blursday, and Other Good News Get inspired by what’s happened lately in the world of mindfulness. Playing Around When his daughter Harper was four, G Cody QJ Goldberg realized most playgrounds just aren’t accessible. Harper uses a walker, and the wood chips at the playground got stuck in the wheels before she could even reach the play equipment. A high school student and her brother are helping seniors feel less lonely with notes and care packages

A high school student and her brother are helping seniors feel less lonely with notes and care packages When the coronavirus pandemic first hit, nursing homes across the United States scrambled to protect their vulnerable residents. They shut their doors and banned visitors, leaving seniors isolated from the outside world. It was only March, but 16-year-old Hita Gupta suspected that life wouldn’t return to normal for a long time. To support lonely seniors and remind them of how much they’re loved, she began delivering care packages to nursing homes in her town of Paoli, Pennsylvania. “When I received a call from the nursing home I’ve been volunteering at telling me I couldn’t visit anymore because of the pandemic, I couldn’t stop thinking about these seniors and the loneliness and anxiety they felt being isolated,” Hita told CNN.

A 16-year-old high school student and her 10-year-old brother are helping isolated senior citizens around the world combat their loneliness during the coronavirus pandemic through care packages and personalized video messages.  Since March, Hita and Divit Gupta have been sending care packages, each with a handwritten note, to retirement homes in Pennsylvania through their nonprofit, Brighten A Day.  Hita Gupta got the idea after a retirement home where she had been volunteering told her that she wouldn t be able to visit the center for the foreseeable future in order to keep the residents, who had been deemed an at-risk population, safe.
