KILLEEN, TX â Killeen ISD is extending their closure through Wednesday as a result of not having access to water needed for drinking, restrooms, cooking, and district-wide fire suppression systems.
All campuses will be closed for students Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. In-person and remote learners will not be required to engage during this time.
The district said they are assessing their ability to reopen campuses to students at the earliest on Thursday, February 25, 2021 if water supply allows. We are focusing all efforts on supporting our community, repairing extensive damage to facilities and preparing for reopening once adequate water supplies are re-established, the statement said. The reality of the situation is we do not have enough bottled water to support 30,000+ students and employees coming to campuses every day. We need the community
Santa Claus will be riding around Harker Heights on a fire truck tonight to greet all of the residents.Â
In an effort to ensure everyone has an opportunity to see Santa, he has agreed to drive by several additional locations throughout town. The locations will include Harker Heights Elementary School, H-E-B, Harker Heights High School and Union Grove Middle School, according to a post on the Harker Heights Fire Department Facebook page.Â
The event will start around 6 p.m. tonight and residents can follow the Harker Heights Fire Department on Facebook for the latest updates and the map of Santaâs route.
Teachers took advantage of time on a recent Friday to plan out lessons during the Killeen school districtâs second remote learning day.
While 2,800-plus teachers collaborated in grade-level groups and labored in their classrooms to build or record lessons, classroom aids, campus administrators and central office staff members guided activities for the small number of students on campus.
At Harker Heights Elementary School, small groups of students divided by grade level spread out in classrooms or rotated through library, cafeteria and gym space during the day.
One of the activities was writing letters to Santa.
The Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Department, it turns out, has a connection to the jolly elf and collects letters for delivery and manages to answer the letters.
