The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County is celebrating a Lake Park artist who s sending a powerful message to the community by bringing fabric to life.
Gillian Kennedy Wright is a mixed media fiber artist who uses and focuses on bold contrasting colors, patterns, textures, flora, abstractions and portraits.
This weekend, Gillian Kennedy Wright will host a community discussion in Lake Worth Beach while sharing her collaborative work of art, Journey to Sunday Dinner.
Through a collaborative partnership with Anthony Burks, Sr., this installation focuses on powerful family women (âBig Mamasâ) who keep their families together in faith and life at the Sunday dinner table.

The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County and its many cultural partners are focused on equity and inclusion in the cultural sector. Palm Beach Daily News Karibu, the Swahili word for “welcome, come in” takes on a new meaning when applied to African-American culture, centered around Sunday meals after church and families drawn together by strong female figures, according to the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County.
And that sense of community is at the center of its new exhibition, Karibu: A Celebration of Black Artists in Palm Beach County.
The exhibit, a collaboration between the Cultural Council and ATB Fine Art Group, headed by artists Trina Slade-Burks and her husband Anthony Burks Sr., will be on view Monday through March 13 at the council’s headquarters, 601 Lake Ave., Lake Worth Beach.
