Brothers investing time in British watch-making );
);
DESPITE having opened a new 35,000 sq ft headquarters in Henley, Bremont’s founders say their mission is far from accomplished.
Nick and Giles English launched their watch-making venture from the former’s home in 2002, aiming to revive the sector in Britain as it was declining in the face of foreign competition.
Now the brothers say their two-storey base at Sheephouse Farm, off Reading Road, will allow them to hire more staff and ramp up production of their luxury mechanical timepieces.
They have 130 staff, including operators who build parts on site and specialists who assemble the finished product in airtight rooms.

New pizza restaurant not needed, say councillors );
);
A NEW pizza restaurant in Henley has been opposed by town councillors, who say it’s not needed.
Stable 34 has applied for planning permission to convert the former Cherwell Windows premises in Hart Street, which has been empty for two years.
It has also applied for permission to erect a freestanding kitchen inside a wooden kiosk at the back of the building, which is Grade II listed.
Henley Town Council’s planning committee recommended the application is rejected.
Mayor Ken Arlett said: “We’ve got so many restaurants now. We have some top-line restaurants in the town and at this moment in time I don’t believe we want any more.

Les Mis actor who can’t wait to be back on stage );
The 24-year-old Henley actor, who is in the cast of
Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre in London, has barely set foot in the spotlight since the coronavirus pandemic broke out last year.
He and his colleagues were sent home indefinitely on March 16, when Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged the nation to avoid large gatherings but hadn’t then enforced the first lockdown.
Since then Mr Peggs has appeared in just two “virtual” shows, including the
Britain’s Got Talent live final on ITV in October, while earning extra money by teaching singing and piano online.
