Barnesville Hospital and Harrison Community Hospital officially became full members of the West Virginia University Health System on April 1. “With these two hospitals, we’re solidifying our presence in the Upper Ohio Valley by ensuring that residents on both sides of the Ohio River have convenient access to the high quality care they need when and where they need it,” Albert L. Wright Jr., president and CEO of the WVU Health System, said. “It’s always exciting to grow a family, and the WVU Medicine family is no exception. Yet, Wheeling Hospital CEO Douglass Harrison said that the hospital joining the WVU team is much more than a cosmetic change. It’s a change that he feels will benefit Wheeling and the Ohio Valley immediately and well into the future. “You’re joining a world-class academic health center and health system,” Harrison said. “As a part of that, WVU medicine will provide the resources necessary to make sure Wheeling Hospital is successful.
