There are clearly still some things to play out in the final two rounds of the season. We have sides outside the eight desperately banging down the door, we have premiership contenders avoiding top spot like it’s the plague, and Hawthorn are reverse tanking to leave Sam Mitchell with the worst draft hand. 18. Friday - Marvel Stadium
The Saints and the Blues will have luxuriated in the stability of six days at home ahead of an all-Victorian fixture, but their meeting on Friday night can’t promise the same character.
Despite Port Adelaide having punctured their finals hopes a round earlier, the Saints pushed West Coast to the line on Saturday afternoon, in a free-flowing contest in Perth.

It was a big round of footy and there were important storylines across the weekend.
We have selected one positive and one negative from the Round 17 performance of each of the 18 clubs.
See our thoughts below:
Positive: Schoenberg shows up
There weren’t many Adelaide players who could hold their head high after the lacklustre 63-point loss to Essendon.
One Crow who did his bit was youngster Harry Schoenberg.
In just his 23rd game, the 20-year-old was one of only a few who led the way with 20 disposals and a team-high seven tackles, four clearances and one of his side’s two goals.

It was a dirty night from both sides on Friday.
It was a down night for Adelaide, as they were kept to their lowest score in 30 years, and it was a down night for the Bombers, who kicked 11 goals but 18 behinds.
That said, it was undoubtedly good to get a win after two losses against premiership hopefuls in the past month, and I’ll certainly take the 63-point margin.

Mark Ricciuto is one of the most polarising figures at the Adelaide Football Club.
As a club director, past premiership player, captain and Brownlow Medallist, he s now also a prominent media figure in the football industry.
While there has been a clean-out of personnel at the Crows in recent years - following the turbulent fallout of the 2017 Grand Final loss and subsequent infamous Gold Coast training camp - Ricciuto has remained an influential figure at the club.
He sat down with chief football writer Mark Robinson to discuss everything from the Collective Mind camp, juggling his media commitments with his club responsibilities, rebuilding the Crows, to the departure of Hugh Greenwood, rift with Andrew McLeod and the performance of Matthew Nicks as coach.
