Fort Dix Elementary, located on Joint Base, has a new principal

FORT DIX  As the school for the children of military families on the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, Fort Dix Elementary presents a unique set of challenges for its principal.  Among the 300 plus students, some have parents who are deployed. Others are starting off in yet another new school. And still others are worried that they will have to move away yet again, just as they have gotten comfortable at Fort Dix. But Darvis Holley is just the man for this job, according to district administrators and those who know him.  Holley, 36, of Willingboro, will take over as Fort Dix s new principal on July 1, replacing Tamra Garbutt, who is retiring at the end of the school year after 14 years in charge.

Cara Surace Bluth, 45, died on Saturday “after a short battle” with the coronavirus that has killed nearly 21,000 Garden State residents since the pandemic hit the state nearly one year ago, according to her obituary. “Cara made every room brighter just by entering it,” her obituary read. “From her soul, she exuded joy, laughter, and love. She loved celebrating with her family and friends, caring for all animals, gardening, and exploring our connections to each other through reiki, meditation, and more.”
