MONTREAL - Mads Sogaard made 26 saves for his third straight win to start his American Hockey League career as the Belleville Senators edged the Laval Rocket 4-3 on Friday.
The Ottawa Senators signed the 20-year-old Sogaard to a three-year, entry-level contract on April 13 after he wrapped up his first professional season back home in Denmark.
The Senators selected the six-foot-seven Dane in the second round of the 2019 draft following two successful years with the Western Hockey League s Medicine Hat Tigers.
Logan Brown, Colby Williams, Jean-Christophe Beaudin and Egor Sokolov scored for the Senators (13-15-1).
Jake Lucchini struck twice while Terrance Amoraso also scored for the Rocket (22-6-3), who were 5-0-1 in their last six before the loss.

He posted a 10-5-1 record with a 2.58 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage as Esbjerg advanced to the league semifinal.
The six-foot-seven native of Aalborg, Denmark, spent the two previous campaigns with the Western Hockey League’s Medicine Hat Tigers and posted a major junior career best 21-13-2 record with four shutouts over 37 games in 2019-20.
He ranks 15th in franchise career wins with 40 over two seasons in Medicine Hat, and tied for fourth with seven shutouts.
Sogaard was the Senators’ second second-round pick (37th overall) at the 2019 NHL draft.

Over 16 regular-season contests, he earned a 10-5-1 record while posting team highs in save percentage (.922), which was also a league high, and in goals-against average (2.58). He also earned three wins over six post-season contests as Esbjerg advanced to the league semifinal. Mads development continued to strongly progress while playing overseas in 2020-21, said Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. He s a big, athletic presence in the net and showcases a very competitive style. We re anticipating a nice transition to North America next season.
