LUDHIANA: Hired a month ago without police verification, two domestic helps, along with their two aides, robbed their employers’ house in Model Town after giving them and other servants food laced with sedatives on Saturday night.
The robbery came to light around 7.30am on Sunday, when a priest (pathi) reached the house as per daily routine and found everyone unconscious. He called a relative of the family who lives in the same locality.
The relative, Swarnjeet Singh, took the family and their other helps to a private hospital and informed the police.
The victims have been identified as Hari Singh, 78, his wife Gursharan Kaur, 76, security guard Khem Nand, 50, watchman Swaran Singh, 60, domestic helps Rumila, 19, and another of 16 years. Their condition is stated to be stable.
Remote as they are in terms of the distance from the district headquarters, the four ‘remote’ villages in Bajura boast an amenity that even some most accessible places often lack. Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality’s Chhapu and Jera villages and Gaumul Rural Municipality’s Amlis and Majhapali villages have been linked to drinking water facility lately.

The government of Nepal has resumed talks with India in its efforts to sign a government-to-government deal so as to purchase chemical fertilisers from India.
The Ministry of Agriculture says a virtual meeting was held between concerned officials of two countries on Wednesday.
Nepal is suffering from the chemical fertiliser crisis since early this year due to different factors including the Covid-19 pandemic and the contractors’ failure to keep their promises. Recently, the government has signed an agreement for the import of fertilisers from Bangladesh in the government-to-government trade model.
In addition, the government resumed its talks with India, halted around a year ago, according to the ministry’s spokesperson Hari Bahadur KC. However, no concrete achievement was made yesterday, he informs.
